Art History and Appreciation

This course provides a unique lens through which to explore the values and narratives of past and present civilizations. It delves into the profound connection between artwork and cultural values, offering an immersive journey into the perspectives of the creators. The curriculum covers the evolution of art from ancient worlds to global perspectives, including Asian, African, Indigenous, and Latin American art, and examines how visual technologies and politics impacted art after the Renaissance.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, students will be able to identify fundamental concepts of art, expression, creativity, and essential design principles, as well as recognize various art forms, tools, techniques, and processes. They will understand the cultural functions of prehistoric art, analyze the form and function of Egyptian art, and trace key developments in early Christian art and architecture.
