Math 6
Math 6 is a course focused on developing computational fluency, conceptual understanding, and mathematical practices. It covers foundational topics like ratios, rates, signed numbers, and refines operations with fractions and decimals. Students will also build algebra skills (solving equations, coordinate plane) and be introduced to geometry and statistics, all within an interactive, feedback-rich environment aligned with state standards.
Key Topics
- Rational Numbers and Operations: Mastering operations with fractions, decimals, and signed numbers.
- Ratios, Rates, and Proportions: Investigating and applying the concepts of ratios and unit rates to solve problems.
- Introduction to Algebra: Solving equations and inequalities, and plotting points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane.
- Geometry: Calculating the area, surface area, and volume of various two- and three-dimensional shapes.
- Statistics: Analyzing data using measures of center and variability, and constructing various statistical plots and histograms.
Learning Outcomes
Students will develop fundamental middle school math skills, including proportional relationships, operational properties, and introductory algebra, geometry, and statistical analysis to boost mathematical reasoning and problem-solving.
Grade Level
- Middle School (Grade 6)
Audience
Students entering the 6th grade math curriculum, students who need a full-year review of all foundational middle school concepts, and students establishing their mathematical base for the transition to pre-algebra.
