Biology
This course offers a comprehensive exploration of fundamental biological concepts and models, emphasizing scientific inquiry and the intricate relationships between living organisms and their environments. The curriculum covers the nature of science, cellular structure and function, metabolism, and biogeochemical cycles. It then delves into genetics, ecosystems, natural selection, and human biology, fostering a deeper appreciation for the nature of science.
Key Topics
- Nature of Science and Biology (Structure, Function, Interconnectedness)
- Cellular Structure, Function, and Metabolism
- Biogeochemical Cycles and Ecosystems
- Genetics, Natural Selection, and Evolution
- Human Biology and Organism Classification
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, students will be able to interpret the interactions of life at various scales, apply practical scientific skills to solve problems and analyze data, and categorize the parts of an organism from the cellular level upward. They will also be able to analyze the relationship between DNA replication and its potential effects and predict how genes cause differences between individual organisms.
Grade Level
- High School (Grades 9–12)
Audience
Students who need a foundation in life sciences, students preparing for advanced science or pre-medical college studies, and students seeking to develop essential scientific inquiry and data analysis skills.
