Game Development

This course offers an exploration of the field, tracing the history of video games from their early influences and console wars to the evolution of gaming platforms and converging technologies. Students will gain practical skills in analyzing various aspects of game design. The curriculum covers storytelling, level design, game interfaces, industry roles, and the phases of production, preparing students to assess future directions in this dynamic industry.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, students will be able to evaluate factors influencing the history of game development and assess how non-entertainment goals, player motivations, and demographics impact game development. They will also be able to compare story elements in video games and traditional media, analyze the influence of gameplay mechanics on level design, and examine player-centered interfaces, industry roles, and trends in video gaming.
