Sociology

This elective course provides a practical introduction to the field of sociology. Students will explore the evolution of sociology as a distinct social science, learn about sociological concepts and processes, and discuss how the individual relates to society. The curriculum covers the influence of culture, social structure, socialization, and social change in today’s society.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, students will be able to describe the development of sociology and compare its different schools of thought. They will explain sociological concepts and processes, analyze the effects of industrialization, and identify the elements of culture. Students will also learn to explain the process of socialization, describe the various life stages, and explain the influence of the social institution of family on society.
