Women’s Studies

This course explores the multifaceted concepts of gender and gender roles, examining the social discrimination prevalent due to gender. Students will delve into the history of feminism and various feminist theories, along with the social and political movements that have championed equal rights. The course also investigates the media’s influence in perpetuating gender stereotypes and contrasts Western and non-Western perspectives on gender and activism.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, students will be able to compare historical and contemporary experiences related to gender, and analyze the impact of laws and legal decisions on women’s rights. They will also be able to produce a report highlighting how organizations support victims of gender oppression and summarize opposing viewpoints regarding laws that have secured rights for women and other vulnerable groups.

Students interested in gender studies, feminism, and social justice, students seeking to understand the history of equal rights movements, and students who want to develop critical analysis skills regarding media and societal inequities.
